This summer, I had the joy of photographing Heather and Derek’s Pacific Northwest waterfront wedding in Olalla, Washington. Without a doubt, summers in this region are something truly special. Not only are the days long and golden, but the weather is also consistently mild and refreshing. As a result, it’s one of my favorite places to photograph weddings.
Since moving back to the Bay Area last fall, I’ve missed Washington deeply. Fortunately, this wedding gave me a reason to return for both work and a personal visit. Although we now live in California, Seattle still feels like home in many ways. Thankfully, I get to travel back often to document beautiful love stories like this one.
Pacific Northwest Waterfront Wedding Venue Near Gig Harbor
Heather and Derek chose a serene waterfront venue just north of Gig Harbor. The property, located along the Colvos Passage, offers incredible views and a quiet, private atmosphere. Best of all, it allowed them to host both their ceremony and reception outdoors — a perfect setup for a summer celebration.
Additionally, the venue’s flow made it easy for guests to transition between events while enjoying the scenery. Compared to traditional indoor spaces, this open-air setting felt more relaxed and deeply connected to nature.
A Celebration of Distance and Reunion
Heather and Derek had spent much of their engagement planning from separate states. Many guests flew in from Michigan and across the country, which made the gathering even more meaningful. After nearly a year apart, they were finally able to celebrate in one place.
Because of this, the energy of the day felt extra emotional. Every moment, from the vows to the toasts, carried a deeper significance. In fact, the entire event felt like a celebration of resilience, love, and coming home.
Elegant Design in Soft Grey and White
The design of the day was refined and intentional. The soft grey palette, paired with white and green florals, created a timeless look that felt clean and romantic. In addition, gold details brought a sense of warmth and understated elegance.
For example, the use of ghost chairs added a modern touch without taking away from the natural setting. Meanwhile, the floral arrangements were lush but balanced, which created a perfect blend of structure and softness. As the evening arrived, candlelight flickered across the tables, making the whole scene feel magical.
