One of the things I love most about being a wedding photographer is all the amazing places I get to visit and photograph. This year is full of travel, and a highlight so far is this fun Palm Springs elopement photographed along the famous Route 66. This editorial elopement has a retro vibe that perfectly suits these unconventional lovers, and I am obsessed with it. It is so different from most weddings I photograph, but sometimes it feels amazing to step outside my comfort zone and create art that excites me. This sun-soaked elopement makes me incredibly happy, and I am excited to photograph more weddings in Southern California this year.
A Retro Wedding Adventure Along Route 66
Roy’s Motel and Cafe first opened in 1938 on Route 66, set against the stunning Mojave Desert. Every year it attracts crowds who want to pose under the neon sign and stand on the iconic highway. It even includes a vintage car that adds to the nostalgia of the past. When you are here, you cannot help but feel like you have stepped back in time, a perfect setting for a memorable elopement.
Portraits That Capture Desert Romance
Cambry and Dylan were a dream to photograph. They were completely at ease in front of the camera and brought their best. Their style fit perfectly with the retro location. Cambry’s short vintage dress was so cute, and Dylan’s suit color complemented the desert tones beautifully. We embraced the winter sun and made the most of the direct light for stunning portraits.
How Florals Enhance Your Wedding Photos
Florals are always a great accessory for any wedding, engagement session, or elopement. I always recommend splurging on your bouquet as it highlights your attire and adds texture and color that really elevate your photos.
Tips for Stunning Desert Wedding Photography
Making the most of natural light is key. Early morning or late afternoon offers the best lighting conditions for outdoor portraits. Be sure to plan your timeline around these times for the best photos.
Making the Most of Natural Light in the Desert
The winter sun can create beautiful, warm tones. Direct sunlight is wonderful for capturing vivid colors, and using shaded areas can soften the look and add variety to your photos.
Wrapping Up a Memorable Wedding Day
We ended the day taking photos on the highway while dodging the occasional car that came our way. It was a perfect close to an unforgettable editorial elopement in this iconic desert setting.
