One of the goals I set out for myself this year was to travel more places to photograph love. I couldn’t have asked for a better start than with this winter chic Joshua Tree elopement. Joshua Tree had been on my bucket list for the longest time, and I absolutely loved this desert editorial elopement. The beautiful rock formations and elegant evening light were a dream to photograph, alongside Eva and Isaac, who brought the passion and their creativity to make this Joshua Tree elopement one of my all-time faves.
Florals
Tame Florals is a sister-owned company who specialize in whimsical and unique designs. I love how these ladies incorporated flowers with lots of texture and highlighted the beautiful desert tones. This floral arch created a lovely ceremony setting against the boulders.
Couple Portraits
Before we got a true golden hour, we had some time to play with direct light. As a natural light wedding photographer, I typically seek out evenly lit areas, but part of the magic of this elopement was getting to play with various types of lighting. Eva and Isaac are so comfortable in front of the camera, and I love their editorial vibe.
Pro tip:
During every wedding I capture individual photos of the couple. This typically happens after the first look and during golden hour. During this Joshua Tree elopement, Isaac was totally up for a little bit of rock climbing – which I loved!
Golden Hour
As the desert sun began to fade, we got the dreamiest golden hour. This is my favorite time of day to photograph portraits. The light creates a brilliant glow, making for romantic and ethereal photos.
