Embracing Wedding Day Rain at Roche Harbor Resort

Wedding

Izzy and Marcus’ Roche Harbor Resort summer wedding was something extra special. When I moved to Seattle the summer before starting at Seattle University in the early 2000’s I started working as a nanny for a family with four amazing kids. Marcus was in fourth grade and the only boy in the family. He was chubby, wore glasses and hated doing homework. But Marcus loved to play pranks on me and he lived for annoying his sisters. He is also hilarious and kind and a gentle giant with a big heart. One thing I know for certain is that Marcus adores his family, but most of all, he adores Izzy, his high school sweetheart.

Getting Ready

I always recommend choosing a getting ready space with lots of natural light. Sometimes I have to make adjustments based on the lighting indoors. In this particular situation, I opted to move the ladies outdoors to the front porch. The white wood and abundance of light made it ideal for photos and looked lovely with this blush color palette.

First Look

There was an orchard next to the getting ready location that we used for Marcus and Izzy’s first look. Izzy walking through the orchard on her way to see Marcus is one of my favorite images from the day. Everything was quiet and peaceful. She looked so elegant walking through the trees.

Wedding Party

The day started out overcast but what none of us expected was rain. As we wrapped up the first look and headed out to the lighthouse for wedding party portraits it started to rain. Through it all everyone remained upbeat and jovial. This incredible group of friends stood out in the rain for over an hour and smiled through it all. That’s something I will remember forever. They lived in the moment; they had the best time and they didn’t allow the rain to change any part of their day.

Wedding Ceremony

Marcus and Izzy wed in the rain surrounded by their loved ones in front of an arbor that Marcus and Izzy’s grandfather built together. It was draped with white roses and foliage.

Pro tip: if there is a chance of rain on your wedding day, I recommend using white or clear umbrellas. Colored ones will be more noticeable in photos and they tend to leave a color hue on skin tones.

Reception Space

Bloom San Juan is a favorite florist on the island and she always makes everything look so lovely.

Reception Portraits

I love to sneak my couples away during the reception for some additional portraits. We were so lucky that the rain stopped and we had a lovely golden hour. It was such a treat!
