The Pacific Northwest is my favorite place in the world. I will jump at any chance I get to return to the place I called home for nine years. I love everything about it: the weather, the water, the islands, the unique neighborhoods and coffee shops. Above all else, I love the restaurants. When my friend, Jenna Bechtholt, asked me to assist her with a Saltwater Farm wedding in August, I couldn’t wait to be back on a ferry crossing the Puget Sound. Ferry rides are my favorite way to get around. The ride from Anacortes to Friday Harbor is peaceful. You must keep an eye out because occasionally you might get a little visit from a porpoise, which is always fun to see.
Saltwater Farm Wedding Photos
Saltwater Farm became a welcomed retreat for guests traveling near and far to celebrate alongside the lovely couple. Friday Harbor is a special place to Lizzy and getting to share this place with all the people she loves made her beam with excitement all day long. The wedding, which took place on a warm summer day, was set against the backdrop of the Salish Sea. Views like this are what make the Pacific Northwest such a special place.
The Venue
Saltwater Farm is just minutes away from Friday Harbor, which is ideal for guests traveling by ferry. Their goal is to create an unforgettable experience for couples and their guests. With multiple ceremony sites to choose from, miles of nature trails, and breathtaking scenery, Saltwater Farm is an incredible place to begin your forever. They offer three wedding packages, which include a 1-day experience, or for couples who want to make a long weekend out of it, they offer a 3 and 4-day experience. Their onsite accommodations include 5 separate guest houses and for adventurous guests, they also have the option to pitch a tent and sleep under the stars.
The Ceremony
Lizzy and Brandon were wed in the sunny meadow surrounded by the fir forest and lavender. From the meadow you get a stunning view of the Salish Sea. As a special tribute to the couple, Lizzy’s father made the ceremony arch. It was adorned with florals filled with texture and soft pastels.
Couple Portraits
Before heading in to join their guests, we stopped to take some portraits during the best time of day – golden hour. I especially love the view of the barn in the background as Lizzy and Brandon pose in that stunning light.
The Reception
Cocktail hour took place in the meadow and the large house. By this time, the clouds started to roll in and we got a welcome reprieve from the heat. Afterward, guests walked the scenic trail to celebrate the rest of the evening’s festivities in the barn. It was a night filled with heartwarming toasts and dancing.
